Capybaras with Guns turns an ordinary gunfight into a rather unpredictable confrontation when the two warriors are capybaras. Each person controls a character on the same keyboard, finds weapons on the map and then tries to defeat the opponent before being pushed out of the ring. The game was developed by Zametki studios and is noted as a two-player fighting game for computers.
The most interesting point lies in the way the game divides the controller into two sides. Player 1 uses WASD to move, E to pick up or drop weapons, and R to fire. Player 2 uses the arrow keys, L to handle weapons and K to shoot. The two sets of keys are located in two different areas so both can sit in front of the same machine and fight directly.
This layout makes each match a reflex battle. You have to both observe your opponent and pay attention to which gun is near you. Being one beat late can mean the opponent picks up the weapon first.
Weapons appear on the map and can be picked up for use. When you run out of bullets, the gun doesn't necessarily become trash. You can drop or throw it towards your opponent, turning the same weapon that has run out of ammo into another attack. Some sources describing the game also note many types of guns such as pistol, shotgun, SMG, rifle and grenade launcher, although the specific list may vary depending on the version or map.
In particular, grenade launchers are not only used to cause damage. The explosion can destroy part of the terrain, creating a new gap on the stage. As positions become less and less secure, forcing the opponent to the edge of the map is sometimes more important than trying to hit consistently.
The M key is used to turn music on or off.
Don't just focus on aiming. Standing position is also an important part of the match. When near the edge of the floor, a well-timed collision or strike can cause the capybara to lose balance and fall. Conversely, clearing terrain with grenades can open up a new attack direction or force the opponent to change position.
Since everyone shares the same screen and there's no network distance to blame, Capybaras with Guns is suitable for short matches between two people sitting next to each other. A game may begin with a fight over the nearest gun, then end with a thrown weapon or a chunk of floor being cleared.
