Apple Worm is a 2D puzzle game where you control a green worm trying to eat apples and escape through cramped levels. The initial mechanics are simple: move to the apple, eat it to grow longer, then find your way to the exit. But the length is what makes every move harder to calculate.

The apple is not just a collectible. The longer the worm gets, the more its body can help it cross gaps, get up to higher places or give its head leverage to get to places it couldn’t before. So the important question is not simply "how do I eat the apple?" but also "how do I move once I've eaten it?"

Apple Worm – How To Play

Each level is different with platforms, gaps and positions that make movement unpredictable. The goal usually starts with the apple, then guiding the worm to the black gate to complete the level. The game has a total of 30 levels, with increasing difficulty.

Apples To Change Movement

The apple solves many mysteries. The worm gets longer after eating it and can reach distances that were impossible before.

But longer also implies tougher to get around. Before eating the apple, a position of seeming safety can become a trap after. So you should watch a full level before opting to advance.

Solving Puzzles With Your Body

The worm’s body may be part of the answer. You can fit your body between cracks and move your head and tail to get to higher places.

A mistake move may not always mean defeat, but it may trap the worm with no way out. In that case, restarting the level and trying a different movement order is faster than trying to save a locked position. The R key is used to restart in some versions of the game.

30 Levels And Small Traps

Apple Worm doesn't need a huge map to create challenging puzzles. Just a few platforms and a well-placed gap are enough to make you think ahead.

You should pay attention to three things:

  • Body position after each apple eaten.
  • Body position when the worm's head enters a new area.
  • Return path in case you need to change direction.

Later levels require better spatial observation skills instead of just reacting step by step. The goal remains simple, but the approach becomes increasingly less direct.

Why Is Apple Worm Harder Than It Looks?

Apple Worm has simple graphics and few buttons, but the difficulty lies entirely in calculating positioning. You're not just controlling the head, but also the entire body behind it.

A good move is one that allows you to get closer to the target while retaining enough space to continue moving. When you start viewing each level that way, the small gaps and platforms become part of a geometric problem rather than random obstacles.

Apple Worm turns simple movement and apple collection into a puzzle of positioning, timing and spatial planning.
