Tiny Garden War is a strategy game where a tiny garden becomes a battlefield of continual conflicts between plants and zombies. At first glance, it's quite fun with colorful plants and oddly shaped zombies. But as the attacks intensify, you'll quickly realize that every space on the lawn needs to be used strategically.

A Turn In Tiny Garden War Starts With Light

Having seeds doesn't automatically mean you can plant anything. Light is a crucial resource for expanding your defenses. Sunflowers are therefore often the first link, providing the energy to deploy other plants.

Then you have to assign resources to each position. Peashooters are good for the back, and they keep attacking, while Wallnuts are good for the front to stop the zombies before they get to you. When a big horde of zombies comes, Cherry Bombs are the fast remedy instead of getting the whole defence line overrun.

Building A Strong Garden Defense

The problem is that there is no one layout that works for every case. A row might work well at the beginning of the level but become weak when new zombie types appear. Placing too many damage-dealing plants without sufficient obstacles also causes the front line to be quickly broken.

Watch The Entire Garden

Look at the entire garden instead of just one row.

The mouse is the primary tool for all actions. You select a seed packet, collect light, and then click on an empty space to place a plant. The operation isn't complicated, but decision-making speed becomes increasingly important when multiple lanes are under attack.

Lawn mowers are located at the end of each area as a last line of defense. They can handle zombies that have breached the defenses, but relying too much on this backup means your team's formation is flawed.

Different Gameplay Modes

You're not always on the side of the plants.

One notable aspect of Tiny Garden War is the significantly different approach to gameplay modes:

  • Garden War: Progress through a series of levels and gradually face new challenges.
  • Survival: Fight off prolonged zombie hordes and see how long you can hold your garden.
  • Vasebreaker: Break open secret containers, but don't know what you're about to open.
  • I, Zombie: Completely switch sides, controlling zombies to find a way to break through the plant defenses.

Things Beyond The Battlefield

If you prefer exploration over simply completing levels, the Almanac provides a significant amount of information. This system records 48 plant types and 23 zombie types, helping you track the characteristics and roles of each.

The Player Profile continues to save progress, collected items, coins, seed slots, and difficulty settings. There are also five secret tiles to discover. Some secrets relate to the elements that appear on the screen on sunny days, making observing the environment sometimes as valuable as calculating your team's formation.

Tiny Garden War therefore doesn't just ask "which plants to grow?", but also forces you to consider "where to plant them, when to use resources, and which options to save for the next zombie wave?".
