There are games that make you fail because you're not fast enough, but Wacky Walk has a different way to make you fall: it forces you to learn to walk on stilts so long that each step becomes a balancing act. The character moves through colorful paths, while the wooden legs constantly tilt with each movement. One hasty step can send the character tumbling before they even see the next obstacle.
Wacky Walk's defining feature lies in its physics system. The character is not in a fixed location from one point to another. Each of the two stilts has its own momentum, so your body leans to the left or right depending on how you steer it. So moving on is not the only thing. You've got to keep changing your speed all the time to keep your center of gravity stable.
The levels guide the character through a variety of environments such as woodlands, farms and open regions to cross. There may be unexpected obstacles, critters and terrain that turn a seemingly safe movement into a fall.
Note that Wacky Walk doesn’t require an elaborate control mechanism to generate obstacles. Just a few basic actions are enough to make each section unpredictable. Once you get used to the pace, you'll start to realize that speed isn't always advantageous. Taking too long strides can easily lead to loss of balance, while hesitating before an obstacle can put the character in an awkward position.
To go far, observe the terrain first instead of constantly pushing your character forward. If the surface changes, or there are gaps or obstructions, you typically need to shift your direction and pace early on. When you are ready to traverse a narrow space, it is generally better to go smoothly than to hurry.
Wacky Walk turns a familiar activity into a physics problem with unforeseen stumbles. Every autumn is another incentive to do it differently next time.
