Meccha Chameleon Online is a fun and unique online hide and seek game where you play as a chameleon that can copy the colours and patterns of your surroundings to hide from the Hunters. Each game presents a fascinating mental duel, in which players need to use observation, strategy and concealment to outwit their opponents and win.
Meccha Chameleon (the word "Meccha" in Japanese means "Super") is a multiplayer hide-and-seek game by two indie Japanese game developers LEMORION and HAGANEIRO. Though only published in early June 2026, the game has become a worldwide phenomenon with over 15 million copies sold, even beating a lot of AAA titles on the Steam charts.
The greatest distinction between this game and its predecessors like “Prop Hunt” (a popular game mode in Garry’s Mod) is how you hide yourself. You are a white humanoid that you paint on yourself with a palette and paintbrushes, blending in with the world around you, instead of morphing into something that already exists.
Meccha Chameleon rules are super easy and fit for everyone from gamers to casual players. It can go to 24 people in a room.
Your mission is to survive. When the round begins, you'll have a preparation time to find a "prime" location. Then, using the palette (with a dropper for accurate color swatches) and paintbrushes, paint your entire body to match the surrounding environment, then choose a standing position. Interestingly, you have to stand in places where the seekers can see you to receive bonus points, not hide in dark corners.
You will be equipped with a gun and move around the map in first-person view. Your mission is to observe meticulously, find anomalies, shadows, or "wrong" shapes to shoot down the Chameleons before time runs out. Every missed shot is a waste, so be sure before firing.
The game offers three different game modes, each providing a unique experience:
This is the most classic mode. Players are divided into two teams: Hide and Seek. The seekers try to catch all the hiders to win.
Things become more chaotic. When a hider is caught, they join the seeker. The number of pursuers increases, putting tremendous pressure on the last remaining "Chameleons".
Everyone gets a chance to experience both roles. All players hide for a period of time, and then everyone becomes a seeker. The person who finds the most others wins.
